Invitation

Lee

Welcome to the 16th KOCSEA Technical Symposium!

It is my great honor to invite you to our annual symposium. The Korean Computer Scientists and Engineers Association in America (KOCSEA), founded in 1983, is a non-profit organization of Korean and Korean American computer scientists and engineers in North America. The basic goal of KOCSEA is to “promote communication, information exchanges and cooperation among its members and to provide opportunities for them to make contributions to computer-related fields in the U.S. and Korea”.

KOCSEA’s flagship event is the annual technical symposium. In the past 9 years we have successfully held it in various locations in west coast and east coast alternately. This year, the KOCSEA technical symposium will be held in Claremont, CA.

I hope that this year’s symposium becomes one memorable event where many industrial researchers participate and collaborate with academic researchers. We have made an extra effort in inviting new participants from the Southern California region. I take a great joy in introducing KOCSEA to those new people and expanding our valuable network.

The one-and-a-half day workshop will consist of invited talks by outstanding researchers and professors in various fields in Computer Science. To absorb the advancements in industry, we have invited many guest speakers from industry.

Student participation is very important in cultivating our future. Following the tradition, we have solicited student posters and scholarship applications. We have chosen top three students to be awarded with scholarships and have invited them to the symposium. Three scholarships are awarded in memory of the late Prof. Moon Jung Chung, who was one of the KOCSEA founders and did a great service to the organization. Prof. Chung’s family has been making generous contributions for the scholarship over the past ten years and we appreciate their continued support.

This event would not have been possible without our sponsors. First of all, we extend our deep appreciation to Harvey Mudd College for providing the venue for our meeting. We also give sincere thanks to our co-organizers KUSCO (The Korea-U.S. Science Cooperation Center) and KISTI (Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information). Several other organizations, including KSEA (Korean-American Scientists and Engineers Association), SK Planet, Naver, University of Bridgeport, LG Electronics, DENTCA, and Fasoo also generously extended a financial support to us. I deeply appreciate all of their support.

Once again, I cordially invite all of you to our technical symposium. Please feel free to bring your colleagues and students. On-site registrations are always welcome.

Please enjoy meeting new members and finding new ideas, and have a great time!

Sincerely,

Eunjee Song, Ph.D.
